News - March 2012
Well its all been happening this month! The goats have been busy with breeding season well and truly in motion. Two girls have been bred to our Sanen buck Lancelot, and we expect the other two girls to come into season shortly, they will be mated to Kodiak our Anglo Nubian buck. This is an exciting time as we anticipate the babies which will start arriving in August ... only five months to wait!
We have also had a little limousin calf named Hercules come and join us for a little while ... he is very cute but his owner doesnt have the time to bottle raise him. All the goats are scared of Hercules and he just wants to play with them - stay tuned for some very cute photos.

News - February 2012
I'm a bit late with February news, so I'll keep it brief.
The bad news to begin with - the shipment of American semen did not make it through quarantine, so it looks like we will be persevering with local genetics for now. I am very disappointed as I had big hopes for the semen and the positive benefit it would have on our herd.
The good news - we have added little Kodiak, our baby Anglo Nubian buck kid to the herd - he will breed the nubian girls when he is old enough.
The girls are starting to cycle now - although the nubians are cycling and the nubian buck isnt old enough, whereas our saanen doe has not started to cycle yet and the saanen buck is big enough! So they are all a little frustrated!
Other than that, it is a quiet month with the girls just poking along, enjoying the sunshine and summer grasses

News - January 2012
Well the little herd is beginning to look a lot more like an actual goat stud. We now have 6 goats, a website, our memberships are being sent in to DGSA this week and the goats will shortly be transferred onto the Viola Stud herdbook.
Currently we are gearing up for breeding season by flush feeding the does to encourage multiple births, and trying a few old wives tales to encourage doe kids! Our two little bucks have their girlfriends all lined up to take them out on dates in a couple of months time.
We are very excited that Paul Hamilton of Semtech is importing some dairy goat semen from America - and we are looking forward to inseminating two of the girls with American Nubian semen. Hopefully this will help with our udder conformation. We also hope to add some Australian Miniature Goats to the herd so they can be inseminated with Nigerian Dwarf semen.
We are also gearing up for show season - the girls are being reminded to walk nicely and mind their manners, washed, brushed and clipped. You will be able to find us at these shows in 2012 (dates will be added as they are confirmed):
1. Harvey Show - 27th and 28th April
2. Northam Show - 14th and 15th September
3. Perth Royal Show - 29th September to 6th October
4. Kelmscott Show - 20th October
5. Brunswick Show
6. Gidgegannup Show
7. Busselton Show
8. Collie Show
9. Albany Show
10. Osborne Park Show
**Please note that this list comprises shows we hope to get to this year, however we may have to cancel our exhibition at a show due to unforeseen circumstances including but not limited to goats kidding, breeding or experiencing ill health, or my work schedule. If you are hoping to see us at a particular event please contact us the week before the show to confirm our plans.
